This rendering details the layout of a planned residential renovation by Rollins Crawford Properties, within the multiple-storefront complex located on the corner of 81st Street South and Rugby Avenue, in Historic South East Lake. The plan calls for the creation of a 3,700 s.f. loft-style living space, incorporating a 400 s.f. center atrium. Open to the elements and surrounded by retractable glass walls which will allow for integration with the interior living spaces, the atrium will gain dramatic effect from exposed truss work extending through the space from above the building’s 12′ceilings. Generous 4-foot soffits, lush landscaping and an exposed staircase providing roof access will make the atrium a visual anchor for the modern, open interiors carved from the 1920s-era retail location, which many view as an area landmark.
Marcus Rollins and Margaret Crawford, residential renovators providing high-end homes to young buyers exclusively in historic South East Lake, view the project as an opportunity to showcase the impressive quality-of-life aspects of this resurgent neighborhood. “You can skateboard from here to the 100-acre East Lake Park without ever putting a foot on the ground”, says Marcus. Margaret, who’s recollection of specifics is at times more reliable, adds, “The entrance to the Ruffner Mountain Nature Center is 3 blocks up the hill. It is one of the finest recreational areas and venues the city has to offer, with 1,000 acres of trails and woodlands, plus animal exhibits, an injured animal rescue facility, meeting spaces and much more. It goes without saying these days”, she adds, “that the finest homes available for the dollar are in South East Lake. And being so centrally located, all of the shopping & business hot spots are within minutes of us”.
